More care, less stress: 5 tips for caregivers

These tips can make caregiving more efficient—and leave more quality time to spend with your loved one. Click each tip to expand and read more.

When you’re caring for someone it can feel like there are a million things to keep track of. Having it all down on paper (or in your phone) can help it seem more manageable. Organize tasks like appointments and medication refills into a daily to-do list and create a separate list for longer-term needs and goals.

Order groceries and supplies online to save time and energy. Set up a shared calendar to keep everyone involved in your loved one’s care informed and coordinated. You can also track symptoms, vital signs and sleep by downloading useful apps. Need to refill prescriptions? A pharmacy app let's you handle it from anywhere.

Creating a consistent routine for mealtimes, bathing, walks, or any other daily tasks can make you feel better-prepared for your day—and create a familiar and comforting structure for your loved one.

How you communicate with your loved one’s doctors, pharmacists, and care team can be critical to the success of their care plan. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or speak up about your concerns. At Conviva, we know that caregivers are important health advocates, and we support your involvement in your loved one’s care.

It’s just as important to recognize your own limits and needs as it is to care for your loved one. Make self-care a part of your to-do list, whatever that means to you—a long walk, time alone, or an afternoon at the movies.
