Alan Ekanem, M.D., practices general medicine. He holds certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, ACLS, Basic Life Support, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale Certificate A as well as Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, ECFMG certification. Dr. Ekanem brings decades of clinical experience in both hospital and primary care settings and vast research acumen to Conviva Dunn Avenue’s team of compassionate, patient-focused health care professionals with a dedication to medical excellence. He pursued a Ph.D. in public health epidemiology at Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2015, and earned his medical degree from the University of Jos in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, in 1998. He received a Bachelor of Science in physiology from the University of Calabar in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria, in 1988. As a senior research manager, Dr. Ekanem studied immune-based interleukin therapy to prevent myocardial infarction recurrence. In previous positions, he conducted stem cell research in progressive systemic sclerosis compared to standard therapy; audits of medical documents for compliance with FDA regulations; and a study of the efficacy of a direct factor X inhibitor in the treatment and prevention of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis (CV upon request). Dr. Ekanem is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Public Health Association, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Puerto Rico, St Johns County Medical Society, the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council, and the Nigerian Society of Physiology. He enjoys golf, chess, basketball, and caring for his lawn.
