Dr. Carmel J. Barrau, a Board-Certified Internal Medicine specialist, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, completed his residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1994 following his internship. Dr. Barrau earned his medical degree from the State University School of Medicine in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1987 and furthered his education in healthcare risk management at the Florida Institute of Risk Management. He has obtained the AMA Physician Recognition Award and Miami-Dade's Businessperson of the Year Award. Dr Barrau is the founder of Unihealth of South Florida Inc, a co-founder of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at FIU where is serves as the Chairman of the Dean's Advisory Council for the College. Dr. Barrau held leadership positions with Villa Maria Nursing Center and the Board of North Shore Medical Center. He is the 1st Haitian American Governor appointed to the Board of Medicine for the State of Florida. He is also the Immediate past President of the Dade County Medical Association. Outside of work, he helps promote the advancement of minorities in the medical field and enjoys spending time with his family.
