Derick José Velázquez Lucena, MD, MHA, is a primary care physician with a strong focus on geriatric medicine and value based care. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from UHSA School of Medicine and completed postgraduate clinical training through Sistema de Salud San Carlos in Puerto Rico. He later completed a Master of Healthcare Administration at Walden University, strengthening his ability to deliver efficient, high quality care within managed care models. Dr. Velázquez Lucena has extensive experience providing comprehensive primary care to senior patients, including preventive services, chronic disease management, and care coordination within Medicare Advantage populations. His philosophy of care centers on treating patients with the same dedication and compassion he would offer his own family, emphasizing listening, education, and shared decision making. He is particularly passionate about diabetes management, heart health, and brain health, and is deeply committed to supporting older adults through trust based relationships and personalized care. Outside of work, he enjoys weight training, spending time with family, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
