Emma R. Alonso Barrueco is a family medicine physician who earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana in Havana, Cuba. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, she provided comprehensive care to patients of all ages in outpatient, inpatient, urgent care and hospital settings. Her experience included chronic disease management, preventive care, emergency medicine, intensive care, obstetrics and care coordination. Dr. Alonso Barrueco completed a Family Medicine Residency in Chicago, Illinois and demonstrated leadership through team-based patient care, medical research and mentoring activities. Guided by a philosophy centered on listening to patients and understanding their needs, she is passionate about preventive medicine and cardiovascular and metabolic health. Her extensive experience caring for older adults reinforced the value of patience, empathy, active listening and individualized care. Outside of work, Dr. Alonso Barrueco enjoys volunteering, spending time outdoors and cooking.
