Dr. Francisco Mercado Gonzalez, a primary care physician, completed a medical internship at Bayamon Medical Center in Bayamon, PR, in 2024. Dr. Mercado Gonzalez earned his medical degree from the Iberoamerican University (UNIBE) in the Dominican Republic in 2021. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Puerto Rico at Aguadilla. His research includes studies on bioindicators of pollution and the health impacts of alcohol consumption in patients with type II diabetes. Before joining us in 2024, Dr. Mercado was a primary care physician at Camuy Health Services in Puerto Rico. He previously was a staff physician at Bayamon Medical Center. Passionate about diabetes, obesity, and exercise, he emphasizes prevention, education, and building trust to empower patients in achieving long-term wellness. Dr. Mercado Gonzalez chose medicine to make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities. He has volunteered in mass vaccination campaigns and breast cancer prevention programs in underserved areas and taught catechism for two years. Outside of work, he enjoys creative writing, with his work published internationally, cooking, and quality time with his family.
