Dr. Gwendolyn Mabel Casanova, a board-certified internal medicine specialist, completed her residency at Damas Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 2008. Dr. Casanova earned her medical degree from Pontifical Catholic University, Mother and Teacher in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, in 2004. Her research background includes studies on CPAP interventions and pain management in the Dominican Republic. Before joining our center in 2024, Dr. Casanova served as a primary care physician with Optum in Pinellas Park, FL, since 2020. Earlier, she gained extensive experience in internal medicine as a hospitalist at the VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, FL, and in her roles at facilities such as HIMA San Pablo Hospital and the Caribbean Medical Center in Fajardo, PR. Dr. Casanova believes listening to patients is vital for improving their health, especially in managing chronic conditions. Her passion for caregiving, diabetes, and nutrition drives her commitment to enhancing patient outcomes. Dr. Casanova chose medicine out of compassion for seniors and a desire to safeguard their quality of life. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, sewing, and gardening.
