Dr. Jose A. Villaplana joined Conviva as a board-certified internal medicine specialist. Dr. Villaplana holds a subspecialty in managed care through the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, ABQAURP. At Conviva, he leads a team of compassionate, patient-focused primary care professionals with a commitment to medical excellence. Dr. Villaplana completed his internal medicine residency at Western Care Reserve Systems in Youngstown, Ohio. He earned his medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University (formerly Ponce School of Medicine & Health Sciences) in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1989. As an undergraduate, he received a Bachelor of Science, Pre-med, from the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez campus. Dr. Villaplana's hospital affiliations have included HCA Florida West Tampa Hospital, a part of HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital, and Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, FL. He is a member of the Hillsboro County Medical Association, HCMA, and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians ABQAURP. Dr. Villaplana has been distinguished with the AMA - Physician Recognition Award. He is an avid bicyclist and enjoys walking.
